Panasonic VIERA G10 Series TC-P50G10 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

I recently bought the P50G10 @ $1500 in April from Amazon and soon amazon got the price down to $1350 in less than 2 months. The same set is at Best Buy for $1300 now. Amazon ripped me off and customer service does not stand buy to pay the difference. Be wary of Amazon electronic deals.

After doing a month or so of research I decided to go with the Panasonic 50″ G10 Plasma. I ordered from Amazon and the T.V. shipped from a company called Datavision. I received the T.V. just over a week later. It was delivered via UPS. When I opened the box I found the T.V. to be in terrible condition. The packing material was broken up, the screen was shattered, and the rear of the T.V. was dented in. I contacted Datavision to begin the return process. It took two phone calls to get a return order issued. The first person I spoke with said he submitted a return order but when I called back a couple of days later they stated there was no record of my first call. A few days after that FedEx was at my door and took the T.V. A week later I got my refund. I also contacted Amazon and they told me to call them back if I didn’t have any luck dealing with Datavision. In the end I was left feeling that both Amazon and Datavision really did want to make sure I was taken care of. BTW, I think UPS is at fault here. It’s my opinion that they aren’t that careful with packages.

I have a 52″ panasonic tv that is less then 2 years old resently it has just turned off all by itself and will not work unless it is unplugged for 15-30 min.s and then it just turns off again after less than and hour of it being turned on it, has been doing this for 2 weeks now, I called panasonic and they gave me the numbers of 2 service centers in my area, AFTER BEING ON HOLD WITH THEIR SERVICE LINE FOR NEARLY 2 HOURS (and if you live in an area where there are no service centers your basicly screwed), neither of which would answer their phones, my tv now will not turn on at all. It did not over heat it is not in the sun and there was no power surge to cause this. I have continued to call panasonic for their help but they have told me the tv is past the 1 year warranty and there are “limited” options right now. One of the service centers finnaly called me back and the MINNIMUM cost of repair for something like this is 400-500$$$ and he said he sees this all the time more than not with these tv’s!!!!! Look around on-line flatscreen and plasmas are KNOWN for doing this and yet no one mentions this before you buy it!!! So if you plan on spending some money on a tv get the longest warranty that is offered because this will more than likely happen to you and panasonic does NOTHING to back their products or to help their customers!!!!! Buy a tv through a company that has a good warranty and has good customer service NOT PANASONIC!!!!

Absolutely HORRIBLE experience – I will NEVER buy Panasonic again! Like everyone who spends this kind of money on a TV, I researched and researched forever before buying this P.O.S. It arrived on a Thurs afternoon and was dead by the next night! There I was watching the Yankee game and the TV just shut off. I thought it was some kind of fluke, so I went to turn it back on and nothing happened. Being brand new, I was still learning all of the features — perhaps I had triggered some sort of timer or sleep mode? No. I scoured the manual (which, incidentally is worthless) and found nothing. I got on Panasonic’s website and found nothing worthwhile. So I called the 1-800 # and had someone “troubleshoot” with me. It took them all of 2 minutes to get to the part where they said “there’s nothing that can be done – we need to schedule a service call”. I was irate that a brand new TV needed to be serviced, but after waiting so patiently for it to arrive, I didnt want to go through the arduous process of finding another TV. So attempted to schedule the repair on a TV that was barely 24 hours old — they said it would be more than a week before the service tech could come out to look at it. I promptly called Amazon and scheduled a return – that has proven to be another nightmare. The pickup company (Pilot) had me wait at home from noon-5pm and never showed. When I called, they said they were running late and would be there by 6:30pm. At 6:20, I called again and was told the truck broke down and they would have to reschedule for the following day noon-5pm again. I told them I cannot continue to take 1/2 days off from work in the hopes of them arriving. After contacting Amazon, they arranged for a late afternoon pickup (after 4pm) the following day. I will certainly NEVER again order an item like this from Amazon – after all of the inconvenience and aggravation, I have received nothing more than a scripted “I certainly do apologize for any inconvenience”.
Bottom line: the TV was good (GOOD, not great) while it worked but it died *1* day after I got it. I agonized over the decision between Samsung and Panasonic — now I know I made the wrong choice. All of the reviews talked about pic quality and features – I never even considered reliability (or lack of, as it turns out).

Ordeed this G10 50 inch july 9 it took to july 21 to get to my house guy came in set it up on stand turned it on and all it did was buzz no picture. so he packed it up and took it back, i called amazon told them and they tell me i have to wait 3 to 5 weeks for a replacement to ship out. or 2 to 3 weeks for refund. never again Dont buy this or any other large purchase from amazon, I canceled the second order amazon put in that would take 3 to 5 weeks i bet they dont even get it back in stock. and i ordered from Newegg and recieved it in 4 days in perfect working condition, newegg stands behind customers and sends out a replacment the same day you call them where as amazon told me i would have to wait for them to recieve tv to send out replacement. or i could contact Panasonic for repairs instead of sending it back. Update 8/13/09 got my refund on this only 20 days
